Graduate Diploma in Business Studies

The Graduate Diploma in Business Studies is an undergraduate diploma designed for people who wish to keep up with developments in their professional fields and people who wish to develop new professional skills to open up vocational possibilities. The Graduate Diploma in Business Studies may be completed in one year of full-time study, depending on prerequisites and sequencing, or over a longer period as part-time study.

Introduction

The Graduate Diploma in Business Studies is an undergraduate qualification designed for people who wish to keep up with new developments in their professional fields and for people who wish to develop new professional skills to open up vocational possibilities.

The GradDipBusStuds is designed to be completed part-time over at least two years. It may be completed in one year of full-time study but usually only if an endorsement is not chosen. Most endorsements require at least two years of part-time study because of prerequisites and paper sequencing. You are also able to study towards the diploma over a longer period of time.
The Graduate Diploma is made up of 120 credits of approved papers at 200 and 300 level. No 100 level (first year) papers and not more than 60 credits at 200 level may be included. If you are a graduate you may include 700-level papers.

Entry requirements

The diploma is an undergraduate qualification that assumes previous work and life experience. Some of the 200-level papers under the diploma have direct entry, but others require prerequisite papers to be completed. Students must either complete the prerequisite 100-level papers, or be exempt from them on the basis of their previous relevant work experience. In this case, they need to contact the relevant department to discuss an exemption (see contact details under your chosen endorsement).

Note: Students who have completed a bachelors degree in any discipline may be eligible for entry to the Postgraduate Diploma in Business and Administration.

Credits and prior learning

You may apply for cross credit of up to 45 credits at 200 level from the BBS toward a GradDipBusStuds. In all cases you must meet the relevant GradDipBusStuds endorsement requirements. If you have another Massey University degree which includes up to 45 credits at 200 level from the BBS Schedule you may also be eligible for credit.

Courses passed at other universities or for non-university qualifications will not be recognised for credit to the Graduate Diploma in Business Studies but could earn an exemption, which would mean you have to pass an alternative paper.

Massey University papers which are not part of a completed qualification and which are listed in the BBS Schedule may also be credited. Papers from other Massey University courses may also be recognised.
In years prior to 1997, 600-level papers were specific papers for the GradDipBusStuds and could not be included in any subsequent study towards the BBS degree. If you have already completed 600-level papers you will be allowed to use them for your qualification.
Two GradDipBusStudies can share 45 credits in common.
